JOHN THOMPSON, D.O.
BOARD-ELIGIBLE ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON
Dr. John Thompson is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in partial and total joint replacement surgery. He has a particular interest in knee and hip replacements including anterior hip replacement, as well as complex revision surgeries.
Dr. Thompson is a native Floridian who grew up in Hollywood, Florida and obtained his undergraduate degree at Florida State University. He attended medical school at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, Florida where he graduated in the top ten percent of his class. Dr. Thompson went to complete his residency at York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania, a Level 1 Trauma Center.
Following his residency, Dr. Thompson completed a fellowship in Adult Reconstruction at the Center for Joint Preservation and Replacement, Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics. During the course of his fellowship year, Dr. Thompson completed over five hundred joint replacement surgeries, a majority of which were complex hip and knee replacements.
Over the course of his education and career, Dr. Thompson has earned numerous accolades including being selected as a Chief Resident. He has also published orthopedic articles and obtained the 19th highest written board exam in the country during his testing year.
He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics, Florida Medical Association, and Lee County Medical Society.
Outside of his professional career, Dr. Thompson enjoys spending time with his wife and two small children, boating, fishing, golfing, and traveling.
Dr. Thompson offers a complete evaluation for all types of orthopedic injuries. Treatments may include further diagnostic imaging (MRI or CT scans), physical therapy, medications, injections, or possibly surgical interventions.
